September Meeting: ASA Conference Report
The September Chapter Meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at the Doubletree Guest Suites in Plymouth Meeting, PA. The Board of Directors will meet at 5:00 pm; all ASA members are welcome. The general meeting starts at 6:30. The guest speaker will be J. Mark Penny, ASA, Managing Director of the Haddonfield, NJ firm of Hempstead & Co. Inc. and ASA International Secretary/Treasurer. Mr. Penny will talk about “News from the 75th ASA Annual Conference, and where the ASA is heading.”
Mr. Penny joined Hempstead & Co. soon after completing an MBA at Temple University and a BA at the University of Pennsylvania. Mr. Penny has prepared valuation analyses for a variety of privately held businesses, ranging from manufacturing to agricultural, including professional practices and communication firms. He is experienced in estimating the value and useful life of intangible assets including goodwill, trademarks and trade names, and professional degrees, and has prepared analyses for many purposes including recapitalizations, ESOPs, mergers and acquisitions, purchase price allocation and calculation of economic damages.
A distinguished member of the Philadelphia Chapter, Mr. Penny has served as its President and also as Regional Governor. He has lectured on the topic of business valuation for the National Center for Employee Ownership and for estate planning groups.
